We’ve all heard it before, corporations are evil, and all they care about is money. Well I couldn’t agree more. Working for a cell phone provider (of which I won’t name) has really opened my eyes to this.

When I was working for Starbucks, the corporate big wigs were actually pretty good when it came to dealing with issues concerning customer service and their staff whom they call “Partners”, it’s Starbucks way of saying they are a part of the company, so when the partners succeed, the company succeeds, cheesy, but it works. The reason I had to leave that company was the middle management. For some reason, they insisted on always hiring externally for the basic store management positions, which really bugged a lot of people, myself included. The external hires may have come from the same position from another company, but that doesn’t mean they can do this job. The real kicker is while I’m training for the next position, I’m also training the external on how to do the job I’m going for, and getting paid half as much, and every time I went for my interviews to move up more was asked of me still, tasks that managers are responsible for, but done by the much lower waged person. Sure that sounds like evil corporate, but I’m pretty sure the middle management just managed to use all that to make themselves look good to save their own sorry asses. So goodbye to you Starbucks, your distract managers ruined that fun for me.

So back to my main issue. Back to how this cell phone companys corporate ideals are pathetic and disturbing. Basically from what I’ve seen in these short 6 months I am not impressed. This company really does not care about it’s customers at all. They like us to think they’ve done something to improve customer satisfaction, but it’s really just a way to keep tabs on the employees and make sure they doing they jobs. When a complaint is mad then, they can just point the customer back to te store they came from, even though the problem is most likely a flawed system error. The staff the. Get the joy of dealing with an aggravated customer, and the head office gets the much less stressful task of then talking to the store representative instead of the angry customer to resolve the issue. It works this way because has given us a system in store that gives us very, very limited control, so we have to call in to a staff only line to resolve complicated issues, caused by a cheaply made system with too many problems to count.

Elementary my dear Watson. Oh wait, I don’t think that was said at any time during this awesome movie starring the always entertaining Robert Downey Jr. and as his sidekick Dr. Watson, Jude Law, can’t say I know much about him, haven’t seen a lot of his movies.

The movie starts off quickly (which I love) with Holmes sneaking in the shadows of London, we have no idea what’s going on, but everyone is hooked just from the great set-up.

Next we are treated into a glimpse of the powerful intellect oh Holmes, I won’t tell you how, but it’s impressively done, with very cool results.

We are treated to more of these moments throughout the movie, each one a unique and awesome view into the mind of this compelling character.

But enough about Holmes, how about a story synopsis?

The movie is set in London during the time the Tower Bridge is under construction (1890’s). A lord whom has convinced most of the population that he is a powerful user of black magic, is killing innocent girls for sacrifice for his dark arts. He is caught by Holmes and Watson at te beginning of the movie and sentenced to hang. He is pronounced dead by Watson himself, but all is not what it seems, Blackwood is seen alive shortly after, apparantly back from the grave. Holmes is on the case, and Holmes doesn’t believe in magic.

How did Blackwood survive, and how is he “magically” making anyone who opposes him cease to exist is seemingly impossible to discover. This is the challenge Holmes has been waiting for.

I highly reccomend this movie to anyone that enjoys a movie that keeps them guessing, and enjoys and good fight (did I mention Holmes put
his renowned boxing to good use?)

Kudos to you Guy Ritchie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be proud.

So Ellen and I went to see Avatar on Sunday night, and I’m so glad we did. That was an amazing movie! From the start it was visually spectacular, or should I say Seantacular! (thanks Krysta), not just because we saw it in “real d 3D”, but because the colours and the detail were amazing.

The story is about an injured ex-marine who finds himself sent off to a distant planet, partly because of the death of his twin brother who was workong on the planet, and partly because he is made an offer he can’t refuse.

I’m sure most of you have seen the trailers, which seemed like they were spoiling a lot of the movie, but they really didn’t. The movie just has so much happening the trailers were just the tip of the iceberg.

Some may say that the story arch is a little predictable, but who cares. The movie was amazingly entertaining, and at 2 hours and 45 minutes, it’s well worth the price of admission plus a little concession.

I highly recommend this movie, but if you’re going to see it any time soon get there early because we thought were there early and we were stuck in the 3rd row (still worth it though).

The theme of all this is the constant battle going on in my head, what am I doing with my life?

I have narrowed it down quite a bit. It boils down to do I want to be a drama nerd, or a computer geek? I am aware that they are completely different career paths, but I think they both also go with who I am. What do you think? I welcome anyone and everyones comments.

I’ll add more to this later, weighing out my reasonings behind both.
